Peter Palchinsky’s 3 Principles

Peter Akimovich Palchinsky was a Russian engineer who played a significant role in the introduction of scientific method into Russian industry.  In Tim Harford's book Adapt  which is a great read and I strongly recommend it.  In the book he references the work of Peter Palchinsky and his work on using trial, error and feedback to tackle problems. The theory revolves around Peter Palchinsky's three industrial design principles:

  1. Variation.          One should always look to seek out new ideas and things
  2. Survivability    When trying new, make sure, it on a scale where failure is survivable
  3. Selection          Seek out feedback and learn from your mistakes as you go along.

I think that in business personal and in life I think these 3 principles should be adopted as standard.
